Bi-amping Ogy+Blank+Bob

Hello ,

I'm currently building a new music room at my attic , because I have a lot of gear ( guitars, amps , speakers , .... ) that I used in an other building . That building is for sale .

At the moment I have placed Ogy & Bob in my attic at an other room at the back of my house . The format of this room is the same as the new music room . The new room will be acoustically treated , especially made diffuse .

I was in contact with Jacek , because I was not pleased with the sound of OGY+BLANK+BOB . Despite the fact that my room is small ( under the roof with sides at an angle of 55 degrees) , there was not enough bass . Probably too little power from my Thivan Labs Magpie 811 tube-amp ( 2 x 11 watt) . Too little for BOB .

So a few days ago , I got a mail from Jacek sending his new video on bi-amping ( The liberation of Sound) . He was experimenting with bi-amping and had made the Bi-Amp Interface cables .

I had some power amps lying around and got to work !

Excuse me , but now it's getting a little bit complicated because I use a Behringer Mixer (see attachments) in my setup . If you have seen my introduction on the forum , you may know I play instruments , mainly guitars .
The Behringer is used as a pré-amp and source . It has a lot of ins ans outs , so you can conect a lot to it ; instruments , sacd-player , streamer , computer , ... .
The possibilities are unlimited .
So my Streamer/dac goes into the Behringer Mixer where I use two outputs . One goes to my Thivan Labs (by XLR) that has a separate volume control , the other out (RCA ) goes to a small pré-amp (with volume knob ) that is connected to my Pass Labs x350:5 power amp . The Thivan Labs than is linked to Ogy, and my Pass Labs is linked to BOB .
By doing so I have perfect control over the 2 speakers and can adjust them to my preference at any time .

The result : the sound is dynamic with a lot of body and bass ,instruments and singers are present in the room.

I mainly like to listen to Jazz , Blues and Classical on this system .

Of course I still have a lot to experiment with turn in , distance to the speakers ( as one of you suggested ) , different amps , ... .I will exchange the Pass Labs with a Rotel RB-1080 power amp , because the Pass Labs is intended for my main system ( bigger room) .

I wil keep you informed of my findings .

Why do I use the Behringer Mixer ? Because it is so easy to record several instruments , for adding effects , equaliser , computer ,... . And I like to play guitar (mainly solo) simultaneously with music that I stream .

I have one more tip ; it's very important that the height of the tweeter is the same left and right. I use a Laserliner to correct the heights . Laser in the center of the tweeter ! You will notice the improvement immediately !

Have a lot of fun , and good listening !

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your experience. True having a Behringer units makes possible to test a lot of set ups.
And in fact bi amping in this case has a big impact. It works both ways adding or subtracting bass. Yes some rooms and places have to much.

Have fun
Jacek
